Women-led Horror Film STORAGE Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

STORAGE, a short horror film from producer and award-winning screenwriter Kelly Krause, launches its funding campaign on the film-centric crowdfunding platform Seed&Spark. The campaign aims to support women behind the camera in the horror genre and broader film industry. It runs through April 29, 2022.

Krause is the Co-founder of Nyx Horror Collective, a Co-producer for micro-short film festival 13 Minutes of Horror, which streams on Shudder, and a Co-Founder of the Stowe Story Labs/NYX Horror Collective Fellowship. The fellowship benefits women horror screenwriters aged 40 and above.

STORAGE is a short psychological horror film that traverses loss through one man’s isolated evening in a rundown storage room. It is an exploration of how we mourn our loved ones and the struggle to escape the all-consuming nature of our grief, no matter how desperately we may want to move on.

She is joined by cinematographer Elle Schneider (Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror), VFX whiz Elaina Scott (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Ashley Lynch of Gingerbreadgirl Post (13 Minutes of Horror), Bianca Beyrouti (Bring me an Avocado), Jean Li (formerly of Inequality Media), and Berkeley Sound Artists (12 Hour Shift).

The project recently received backing from Couper Samuelson, the President of Feature Films at iconic horror production company Blumhouse. With additional funding, STORAGE will cover crew wages, post-production costs, and marketing to ensure the film reaches as wide an audience as possible.

“We’re thrilled that Couper found STORAGE to be special,” says Krause. “The global pandemic has meant setbacks for women, with the number of women filmmakers dropping by 25% between 2020 and 2021. Having the support of industry professionals like Couper furthers our mission to remove those challenges, addressing industry parity and transforming how we as a whole think about women filmmakers and genre.”
