‘The Munsters’: Rob Zombie’s Reboot Receives A PG Rating
There has been a lot of speculation this year surrounding the tone of Rob Zombie’s reboot of The Munsters. Fans have been wondering if it would follow the feel of the original series, or if Zombie would instead reliably switch things up. According to Bloody Disgusting, the new film adaptation will in fact be rated PG for “macabre and suggestive material, scary images and language.”
Zombie is a tried and true household horror name. Beyond his extensive music career, he has already directed a handful of hotly debated genre classics. The critically acclaimed House of 1000 Corpses and the 2007 remake of Halloween, for instance, remain extremely polarizing to this day.
The Zombie cast includes Sherri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, Jeff Daniel Philips as Herman Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa Munster. The original cast of The Munsters featured Fred Gwynne, Yvonne de Carlo, Beverly Owen, Butch Patrick, and Al Lewis as Grandpa Munster. Together, the group played the average nuclear American family. But twist—they were a clan of monsters!
Back in the 1980s, they resurfaced as The Munsters Today—the longest-running series in the property’s history. In 2012 NBC gave a reboot a try with Bryan Fuller at the helm. While the pilot for Mockingbird Lane has its fans, it wasn’t enough for the network to push the iteration forward as a series.
Lastly, there’s still no word if The Munsters will head to theaters, or if it’ll be exclusive through the streamer Peacock sometime in 2022.
