Dusty dirt roads. Whirring windmills. Dandelion-laden fields. The atmosphere is charming enough… until you hear that eerie goddamn flashbulb go off. Yes, a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is coming, from Gun Interactive, who unveiled it at The 2021 Game Awards.

For those uninitiated, Gun Interactive is the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game. The company is now teaming up with Sumo Nottingham to bring Leatherface’s rampaging insanity to PC and current-gen consoles. Based on the Tobe Hooper’s original film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will also deliver the same multiplayer experience that Friday the 13th: The Game first did in 2017.

“It’s no secret that the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is probably my favorite horror film ever,” Gun Interactive creative director Ronnie Hobbs said following the reveal. “Div[ing] into the world of this IP with the team from Gun and working with Sumo to bring this vision to life has been surreal. I can’t wait for everyone to see more of what we’re doing.”

“We’re incredibly excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on here at Sumo Nottingham. To be the first to truly bring the world of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to life was an opportunity that could not be passed,” adds Sumo Nottingham executive producer Darren Campion. “The cult classic has been terrifying and spellbinding people for over 40 years. We’re thrilled with how the game is developing. We cannot wait for fans old and new to become part of this truly authentic experience.”
