It’s Alicia Silverstone Vs. a Bloodthirsty Shark in Gnarly Trailer for ‘The Requin’

'The Requin' Shark Horror Alicia Silverstone

Shark horror remains one of the most consistently solid subgenres. Long after Jaws sparked a cultural phenomenon, many films—from Andrew Traucki’s Aussie sleeper, The Reef, to Johannes Roberts’ skillfully shot, cage-bound carnage in 47 Meters Down—have honored cinematic sharks’ tradition of terror. Enter The Requin.

In writer-director Le-Van Kiet’s new sharksploitation horror-thriller, Alicia Silverstone stars as Jaelyn, who sets off with her husband, Kyle (James Tupper), for a romantic getaway at a remote villa on the shores of Vietnam.

“There’s terror in paradise,” the film’s synopsis says, “[when] a torrential storm descends, reducing the villa to little more than a raft and sweeping the young couple to sea. Suddenly, another danger appears: a school of great white sharks. With her injured husband watching helplessly, Jaelyn must battle the deadly predators alone in this tense thriller that rides an unrelenting wave of fear.”
