EFM 2013: News Wrap-up - Dead Snow: War of the Dead, The Pact 2, Autumn Blood, Dead End, TerritorialThere’s lots of news today coming out of the European Film Market in Berlin, and rather than write several stories, we figured it would be a little easier to drop the whole thing on you in one neat package. Read on!

First up for you Nazi zombie fans, writer and director Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) is returning to his native Norway to direct the action-filled Dead Snow: War of the Dead.

Set to be released in both English and Norwegian, the new film follows the sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack who battles an even larger army of zombies with the help of the Zombie Squad, a professional gang of zombie killers from the US.

Wirkola says of the new script for his sequel to the cult hit Dead Snow: “[It’s] bigger, scarier, funnier, more action-filled and gorier than the previous one.

Next, a sequel to Nicholas McCarthy’s The Pact is getting set to start haunting. Dallas Hallam and Patrick Horvath (Entrance) will write and direct The Pact 2. “The sequel takes place weeks after Annie Barlow’s confrontation with the Judas Killer from the first film. In Pact 2 a new protagonist, June, is terrified by lucid nightmares that impact on her waking life.

Shooting is set to begin this spring. Preferred Film & TV’s Ross M Dinerstein will produce, and Content’s Jamie Carmichael and The Pact writer-director Nicholas McCarthy serve as executive producers.

108 Media and Paladin have acquired worldwide rights to Markus Blunder’s Austrian thriller Autumn Blood with plans for a North American release this year. “Autumn Blood focuses on an orphaned brother and sister who live an idyllic secluded life in the Alps when they find themselves stalked and hunted for sport.” Sophie Lowe (Two Mothers) stars, along with Peter Stormare, Gustaf Skarsgard and Samuel Vauramo.

From there we can tell you that Raven Banner Entertainment has acquired world sales rights to Nicholas David Lean’s Dead End (AKA Hard Shoulder). The Toronto-based company has been meeting with buyers to talk up the “tale of a family that takes a road trip to the Welsh moors and fall foul of a convoy of violent carnival travelers.” Violent carnival travelers? Sign us up! We’re there with bells on!

And finally Odin’s Eye Productions is partnering with Wolf Creek Pictures to produce hybrid genre film Territorial to be directed by Matthew Holmes. Scripted by Matthew Holmes and Alex James, Territorial is a creature feature that combines classic thriller-horror with the Western genre. Film Victoria has contributed development finance to the project, which is scheduled to start shooting in September 2013. Wolf Creek Pictures is the production company behind hit Australian horror Wolf Creek. The company is currently in production on its sequel Wolf Creek 2.

There you have it, kids. All the news that’s fit to print. Now go and enjoy your Saturday. We’ll be here keeping an eye on things!
