Documentary HORROR NOIRE Serves as Inspiration for New Anthology Film Coming to Shudder

A new Shudder Original anthology film, Horror Noire made its Comic-Con debut this weekend with a panel moderated by writer/editor/speaker Ashley C. Ford and featuring anthology writers Tananarive Due, Steven Barnes, Victor LaValle, and Shernold Edwards as they shared the inspiration behind their adapted stories and how they go about adapting them for different formats, as well as why now is an important time to tell these stories.

Horror Noire premieres in October on Shudder. You can check out both the anthology’s teaser and the fill Comic-Con panel below.

Horror Noire is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2019 documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror and features new work from both established and emerging talents, showcasing stories of Black horror from Black directors and screenwriters.

Earlier this year, RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, picked up select rights to Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror from Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural. Horror Noire was released on DVD and Blu-ray back on February 2nd, 2021.

Synopsis:
Delving into a century of genre films that by turns utilized, caricatured, exploited, sidelined, and finally embraced them, Horror Noire traces the untold history of Black Americans in Hollywood through their connection to the horror genre. Adapting Robin Means Coleman’s seminal book, Horror Noire presents the living and the dead, using new and archival interviews from scholars and creators, from the voices who survived the genre’s past trends to those shaping its future.

Written by adjunct professor of film Ashlee Blackwell and Danielle Burrows and directed by Xavier Burgin (Giants), Horror Noire features Tony Todd (Candyman), Rachel True (The Craft), Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt: Demon KnightThe Walking Dead), Rusty Cundieff (Tales from the HoodChappelle’s Show), Tina Mabry (Mississippi DamnedQueen of the South), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle & Flow), Tananarive Due (The Twilight Zone) and Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman, professor and author of the book Horror Noire: Blacks in American Horror Films from the 1890s to Present.
