Marvel Nabs Director for New BLADE Reboot

Blade

Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) is in talks to direct the upcoming Blade reboot for Marvel, Deadline reports. The director’s filmography is relatively short, with only one feature under his belt to date. But Tariq reportedly wowed studio execs with his vision for the franchise, beating out a number of other creators that were in the running.

The announcement comes before a deal has been inked. And Marvel didn’t provide a comment on the matter.

Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage) has been tapped to star as the titular character. Stacy Osei-Kuffour is assuming screenwriting duties with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige serving as producer.

The Blade character’s first appearance in comic form was in Tomb of Dracula No. 10, more than forty years ago. And Wesley Snipes famously played the character in three feature films from 1998 through 2004.
