Netflix Acquires Survival Game Horror Movie CURS>R at Cannes
Deadline revealed in an exclusive that Netflix purchased the world rights to survival game horror film CURS>R at Cannes Virtual Market on Thursday.
Netflix paid in the high seven figures for CURS>R, which stars Asa Butterfield (Sex Education), newcomer Iola Evans (The 100), Eddie Marsan (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw). Also joining the cast is horror legend Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street).
Supporting cast includes Kate Fleetwood (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1), Ryan Gage (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), Angela Griffin (Last Chance Harvey) and Joe Bolland (The Trial of Christine Keeler).
Making yet another massive deal on a horror film at Cannes, European seller and producer Anton is on a roll with the purchase of the CURS>R. Anton handled European sales with Endeavor Content co-repping domestic. Cecile Gaget, Anton’s President of International Production and Distribution negotiated the Netflix deal on behalf of Anton, Stigma Films and the filmmakers.

Production wrapped in April on CURS>R. Shot on location in London, the film participated in the U.K. government Film & TV Production Restart Scheme.
CURS>R puts a dark twist on the gaming obsessions of the 80s.
CURS>R follows broke college dropout Kayla (Iola Evans), desperate for money. She plays an obscure, 1980s survival computer game in pursuit of an unclaimed $125,000 prize. The game curses her, and Kayla is faced with dangerous choices and reality-warping challenges. She knows she is no longer playing for the money, but for her life. Trapped by the game, Kayla realizes that there are no extra lives, resets, or cheat codes- She must win, or pay the ultimate price.
Toby Meakins is making his directorial debut from Simon Allen’s script. Producers are Sebastien Raybaud and John Zois for Anton, and Matthew James Wilkinson for Stigma Films. Executive producers are Simon Allen, Nick Angel and Liza Glucoft.
