Elijah Wood IS in THE TOXIC AVENGER Reboot After All

First, we heard rumors that Elijah Wood would be playing the villain in Macon Blair’s Toxic Avenger reboot for Legendary. Then Deadline reported Kevin Bacon got the job (link below).

Today, however, brings confirmation that Wood is indeed part of the cast of the Toxic Avenger reboot, although the part he will play is uncertain at this time. Today’s announcement (also via Deadline) also reveals that Julia Davis (Phantom Thread) has joined that cast.
Wood, Davis, and Bacon will join previously announced cast members Taylour Paige, Peter Dinklage, and Jacob Tremblay. Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are producing for Legendary.
Kaufman tells us here at Dread Central: “Macon Blair knows Troma better than I do. He’s seen everything. He’s seen the cartoon, he’s seen the Halloween special, he’s seen everything… I’ve read the script and it’s better than the original and I leave it to him. If I’m called upon, I’d be happy to jump in. I learned on the musical to leave the creative to the creative. I learned to let them ask so if they want me, I’m there.

Described as a contemporary reimagining, this Toxic Avenger reboot will subvert the superhero genre a la (Deadpool). The first flick followed a dude who gets disfigured after falling into toxic waste and then fights bad guys like a superhero.
Michael Herz directed the original The Toxic Avenger from a screenplay written by Lloyd Kaufman (credited as Samuel Weil) and Joe Ritter. The film spawned three film sequels including The Last Temptation of Toxie and Citizen Toxie.
The cult classic Troma flick sports a surprisingly solid 70% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s the Critics Consensus that reads: A silly and ribald superhero spoof, Toxic Avenger‘s uninhibited humor hits more than it misses.
