the nine masked marauders of Slipknot are back in the studio recording a new album, the band’s leader and percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan confirmed.

The follow-up to 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind will mark an end to Slipknot’s current contractual obligation to their label, Roadrunner. This means the band will soon be free to sign with a new label or become an independent entity.

As for the sound of the album, Clown dished in a recent interview with Dowload Festival host Kylie Olsson:

“Great music has been written… and this is the first time we can go into a studio with completed lyrics. When I say ‘completed,’ I mean written, recorded, but[Corey Taylor is] still gonna have his time in the studio to project what he wants to for each individual song. So they’re as done as they can be until he comes in.” Clown confirmed that the band is currently holed up in an undisclosed recording studio in Los Angeles.

“We’re making God music, and we’re having a blast. And it’s just great to be around everybody, and everybody is in the best mood I’ve ever seen,” Clown exhudes.

“So, is [this album] different? They’re all different,” Clown added. “But they’re SLIPKNOT. We search our souls, so we believe that you’re gonna love it, because we love it, I guess. So, it’s different. But I’ll tell you: I’ve never heard Corey Taylor like this right now — I just never heard him like this. I feel full circle. I almost feel like we’re giving homage to everything we grew up loving.”

Slipknot roared back into the limelight in 2019 with a new album (We Are Not Your Kind) and a world tour that hit festivals across the globe. Though their juggernaut momentum was halted by the Coronavirus pandemic, they seem poised to pick up right where they left off when the coast is clear!
