New SIN CITY 30th Anniversary Deluxe Editions Coming This Year

It may be hard to believe, but the Sin City franchise will be turning 30 later this year. To celebrate this milestone, publisher Dark Horse will be releasing new 30th anniversary editions of the ultraviolent comic series, so fans might want to start saving their pennies.

This news comes straight from The Hollywood Reporter, who confirmed that the new editions will include original cover and pin-up art. So even if you already own every Sin City comic which has ever been published, it will be worth spending money on these new versions to admire the new artwork, which will be created a team of renowned illustrators including Amanda Conner, Gerardo Zaffino, Philip Tan, Paul Pope, Joyce Chin, and Klaus Janson.

On the other hand, of you have never read a Sin City comic book before in your life, it sounds like these new editions will be a great way to start with the series. The new edition of The Hard Goodbye will be released on October 12, with the remaining volumes then becoming available over the following weeks. Both softcover and hardback versions will be available, so it sounds like fans will have a lot to look forward to.

Creator Frank Miller wrote and illustrated each issue. Sin City focuses on the brutal conflicts between criminals and law enforcement agencies within the aptly named Basin City. It dealt with some heavy themes like nihilism and corruption of the powerful. But there was also a healthy dose of black humour sprinkled in throughout the volumes. Miller also clearly wanted to keep the stories grounded in realism. But there were some minor supernatural elements here and there. Before long, the series became known for its highly stylised neo-noir presentation. And its strong level of graphic violence. Some would even call Sin City one of the defining comics of the 1990s. There were also two film adaptations, which were both co-directed by Miller.

On a personal note, I will also be turning 30 this year. So I would like to thank Dark Horse for reminding me of how old I am. Either way, Sin City serves as a reminder that Frank Miller was actually capable of creating great comics. Before he was churning out crap like Holy Terror. So I am looking forward to reading the new edition of The Hard Goodbye when it arrives on October 12. This happens to be my birthday, so I’m convinced that Dark Horse are teasing me with this announcement. Did I mention that I happen to be an avid Sin City reader? I guess I know what I’m spending my birthday money on.
