SON OF KONG May Be the Next New MonsterVerse Movie Directed by Adam Wingard

This afternoon brings word that Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard is currently in discussions with Legendary to direct the next film in the MonsterVerse–and that Son of Kong may be the film’s working title! THR broke the news, reporting:

“The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Legendary is quietly taking steps to stretch the series into one or more installments, entering early talks with Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard to return for another round of monster-on-monster action.”

The article continues: “One possible title being floated internally? Son of Kong.”

Obviously, we think recruiting Wingard to helm another MonsterVerse movie is a fantastic idea! While anything can happen and Kaiju fans should resist getting their hopes up, there’s no denying that this all sounds quite positive. Godzilla vs Kong is still playing in select theaters and available to stream on HBO Max through April 30th.

Synopsis:
Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.  Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond.  But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe.  The epic clash between the two titans—instigated by unseen forces—is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Adam Wingard directs Godzilla Vs Kong from a script written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein. Terry Rossio, Michael Dougherty, and Zach Shields penned the story based on Godzilla by Toho and King Kong by Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper.

Godzilla Vs Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård (The Stand), Millie Bobby Brown, and Rebecca Hall. Brian Tyree Henry co-stars with Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir. Mary Parent produced with Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, and Brian Rogers.
