Starz Gives AMERICAN GODS the Big Old Axe

Starz has canceled Neil Gaiman’s American Gods after three seasons. But THR claims Starz wants an event series or movie to wrap up the story.

Starz said in a statement: “American Gods will not return for a fourth season. Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country.”

The decision was based on lackluster ratings. Season three’s ratings slide 65 percent across multiple platforms when compared with season one. Not to mention, the show had four showrunners over three seasons. Bryan Fuller, Michael Green, Jesse Alexander (Hannibal), Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter).

Developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, American Gods season 3 will add Lela Loren, Devery Jacobs, Blythe Danner, Marilyn Manson, Julia Sweeney, and Danny Trejo. Pablo Schreiber, Mousa Kraish, and Orlando Jones will not return. It was executive produced by Eglee, Gaiman, Anne Kenney, Damian Kindler, David Paul Francis, Mark Tinker, McShane, Craig Cegielski, and Stefanie Berk.
