SNL Parodies King and Kubrick’s THE SHINING with New Skit

Maya Rudolph takes an eerie walk through memory lane backstage at SNL in a parody of author Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick’s classic ghost story, The Shining.

Check it out below.

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining obviously follows Jack Torrance who becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer’s block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny, who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack’s writing goes nowhere and Danny’s visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

The last time we saw the Overlook Hotel on the screen was in Haunting of Hill House director Mike Flanagan Doctor Sleep with Ewan McGregor. Flanagan hasn’t given up hope for his Dick Hallorann prequel spinoff.

He says: “A lot of the plans and the enthusiasm that we had for Hallorann, and for other things as well kind of coming off of this, cooled off very understandably with the studio after [Doctor Sleep] was released. But I think we’re learning [about] that paradigm shift between theatrical and streaming that everyone has seen coming.

Bummer. But at least there’s still Overlook.

J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot’s spinoff is still in the works over at HBO Max.

Dustin Thomason and Scott Brown (Castle Rock) will write and executive produce the 10-episode drama. HBO head Casey Bloys says: “We haven’t seen anything. I’m excited to see it. They seem encouraged and happy, but I don’t have any update other than they’re busily working away at Bad Robot.”
