Timur Bekmambetov to Turn New Short DON’T PEEK Into Feature
Julian Terry’s horror short Don’t Peek made its world premiere on the first day of SXSW Online. And now we hear, Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) will adapt the seven-minute short into a full-length feature.
Majd Nassif produces. Creative executive Pavel Bozhkov oversees the project.
Featuring Animal Crossing and the Nintendo Switch, Katie C’etta stars as a young woman who discovers a frightening video game character is intent on crossing into the real world. A follow-up to They Hear It and Whisper. Terry produced it last year during quarantine and uploaded it on YouTube before SXSW accepted it.

Universal and Bekmambetov recently made a deal for five more films shot in the Screenlife format like Unfriended and Searching. Bekmambetov says has 50 Screenlife projects in the works, including a sequel to Searching.
That said, Universal hasn’t focused on which five films will come under the deal.
He says: “It’s a slate deal. I know; they don’t yet. We agreed it will be five Screenlife movies in different genres, and of course, I will discuss with them the cast and the directors, but they trust me. Because every Screenlife movie we’ve made was successful in different ways, some creatively and some commercially, and because it’s a new language. We know there will be romantic comedies, sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and detective stories like Searching. These will be very relatable to audiences that absolutely understand this language because it’s how we live.”
