Sigourney Weaver Honors ALIEN Co-Star Yaphet Kotto Now

Yaphet Kotto

Earlier this week Yaphet Kotto passed away at the age of 81. And today, Alien co-star Sigourney Weaver opened up about her time with Kotto.

In a statement to Variety, Weaver writes: “Every day Yaphet Kotto blew me away on the set of ‘Alien.’ He just went for it in every scene, making the stakes higher and higher and giving each scene a terrifying reality. It was a nonstop master class for me and I will always be grateful to him. Rest In Peace Parker…Over and out, Ripley.”

Tessie Sinahon, Kotto’s wife of 24 years, broke the news of his passing on Facebook, writing: “He died last night around 10:30 pm Philippine time. A good man, a good father, a good husband, and a decent human being, very rare to find. Rest in Peace Honey, I’m gonna miss you every day, my best friend, my rock. I love you and you will always be in my heart. Till we meet again!

Alien takes place in deep space, where the crew of a commercial starship is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

It sports a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: A modern classic, Alien blends sci-fi, horror, and bleak poetry into a seamless whole.
