The next installment of the “Dissecting Horror” digital panel series will take place today (Wednesday, March 10th) at 6 pm PST and be with the creative talent from Samuel Goldwyn Films’ Dreamcatcher. Panelists include writer/director Jacob Johnston, cinematographer Matthew Plaxco, composer Alexander Taylor and one of the film’s stars Elizabeth Posey (Ivy). I’ll be moderating.

“Dissecting Horror” will be streamed on Dread Central’s Facebook page and Twitch Channel. The panel will also be made available on our official YouTube channel.
Dread Central and Jordan von Netzer of Projection PR launched “Dissecting Horror” April 15th with a panel focused on horror film scores. Since then, they have produced panels spotlighting stunt coordinators, visual/special effects and the creatives behind Followed, Cruiser, 12 Hour Shift, Don’t Look Back, Hunter Hunter, Willy’s Wonderland, Wrong Turn, and Parallel.
ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
JACOB JOHNSTON (Director/Writer)
Jacob Johnston is a natural-born storyteller and seasoned industry professional. From 2010 to 2017, he assisted, in part, on the conception and visual continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first as the Visual Development Coordinator and then as Visual Development Producer on over 15 films including Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange, Captain America: Civil War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. While at Marvel, Johnston worked alongside industry geniuses like producers Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, and Jeremy Latcham; directors James Gunn, Ryan Coogler, Joe and Anthony Russo, and Kenneth Branagh; as well as irreverent writers such as Edgar Wright, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, and C. Robert Cargill.
After leaving Marvel Studios, he took a position as the SVP of Development for Jack Davis and Eli Roth’s horror-based production company, CRYPT TV. Here he developed and spearheaded many of their most successful properties including Sunny Family Cult, Mordeo, Stoneheart, and The Look-See. Simultaneously writing and directing in his free time at Marvel and Crypt, Johnston’s short films and music videos have collectively garnered 20 million+ views and screened at more than 35 festivals; winning numerous awards at festivals such as Hollyshorts Film Festival, Miami Independent Film Festival, and DC Shorts Film Festival
MATTHEW PLAXCO (Cinematographer)
Matthew Plaxco is a father, a gifted Cinematographer, and part of the director duo MOM. Plaxco attended Art Center College of Design where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He is currently represented by Zero Gravity Management. He was born in Seattle, Washington, and lives in Los Angeles working on commercials, shorts, feature length films, and music videos. Plaxco has collaborated with clients including, National Geographic, Lifetime, BET, MSNBC, History Channel, Microsoft, Google, Rolex, Tag Heuer, and more. He believes in an honest approach to storytelling while retaining an elevated aesthetic.
ALEXANDER TAYLOR (Composer)
Alexander Taylor is a music composer for film and television based in North Hollywood, California, best known for his works in the horror genre. He is signed with the talent management agency Bohemia, based in Los Angeles, Ca.
Taylor’s recent score to the Award-winning documentary Scream, Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street has been getting praise from all over the world. “A superb score by Alexander Taylor helps to capture the optimism of the overarching message – while leaving the audience ready to start dancing in their favorite 80’s shades,” says Samantha McLaren from Scream Horror Magazine.
His work can be heard in the Thomas Jane helmed werewolf film, Hunter’s Moon, released by Lionsgate. “Hunter’s Moon is a splash of Tom Waits, a pinch of Marco Beltrami, and a healthy scoop of insanity seamlessly blended together into Alexander Taylor’s organic and quirky thriller score,” writes Greg Richling (Head of Production at Pfonetic/bassist for The Wallflowers).
His work is featured in the crime-thriller Arkansas, starring Vince Vaughn, John Malkovich, and Liam Hemsworth. The film also features original music by Devendra Banhart and The Flaming Lips.
Taylor crafted an intense score to the up-coming thriller, Dead of Night, which stars Lance Henriksen and Matthew Lawrence.
With several more horror films in post-production right now, as well as having scored series for Jason Blum & Eli Roth’s Crypt TV, Taylor has become one of the go-to composers in the horror genre.
ELIZABETH POSEY (Ivy)
Elizabeth was born in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, and grew up in the Jacksonville, Florida area from the time she was a young child. She is the daughter of David and Christine Posey, and cousin to actor Tyler Posey. Her father is brother to actor John Posey. Her heritage is Irish, English, and Swiss. Elizabeth developed an early interest in the arts and began her acting career performing on stage throughout her adolescent and young adult life. She attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida where she duel majored in Public Relations and Theater. After graduation, Elizabeth moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Elizabeth is also classically trained in voice and has studied music from the time she was 7 years old.
