It’s been over a decade since Neill Blomkamp obliterated the line between horror and sci-fi with his socially conscious and darkly humorous outing District 9. Now, it looks like the story of government worker (and unwitting alien hybrid) Wikus van de Merwe will continue in District 10!
Blomkamp told his Twitter followers that the sequel is currently in the works with Sharlto Copley (the actor who played Wikus in District 9) and District 9 co-scribe Terri Tatchell working on the screenplay!
If it’s been a while, or if you’ve never experienced District 9 for yourself, revisit the trailer and synopsis below.
Thirty years ago, aliens arrive on Earth — not to conquer or give aid, but — to find refuge from their dying planet. Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are managed by Multi-National United, which is unconcerned with the aliens’ welfare but will do anything to master their advanced technology. When a company field agent (Sharlto Copley) contracts a mysterious virus that begins to alter his DNA, there is only one place he can hide: District 9.
