Upcoming BLADE Reboot To Be Written By Stacy Osei-Kuffour

Before superhero movies were all the rage, before horror and comics were prone to collide, there was Blade, directed by Stephen Norrington! The film franchise based on the character from Marvel Comics was launched in 1998 and spawned two sequels (the second directed by Guillermo del Toro and the third directed by David S. Goyer).

Fans have been clamoring for a reboot for years and 2020 revealed that a new Blade is indeed in the works with Mahershala Ali set to play the titular “Daywalker” (made iconic by Wesley Snipes in the original franchise). We don’t know who will be directing the film yet, but THR broke the news that Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen) will pen the script!

The site rports:

Stacy Osei-Kuffour, a playwright who acted as story editor and writer on HBO’s acclaimed limited series Watchmen, has been tapped to pen the script for the feature reboot of Marvel’s vampire-hunting franchise. She will be the first Black female scribe to write a Marvel movie. (Nia DaCosta, working on Captain Marvel 2, is Marvel’s first Black woman director.)

Obviously, the project is still in its infancy, so we don’t have much else to report at this time. But you’d better believe we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you Blade reboot news as details emerge. Stay tuned and check back often!

If it’s been a while, check out the trailer and synopsis for the original Blade below.

Synopsis:
A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.
