Rumor Rundown: Is There Really a MONARCH Series in the Works at HBO Max? Mr. H Weighs In!

Over the weekend, Fandom Wire made the exclusive announcement that there’s a series about Monarch (the shadowy organization at the center of Legendary’s “MonsterVerse”) in development at HBO Max. It’s an exciting prospect to be certain, but how likely is it to be true?

FandomWire can exclusively reveal that HBO Max is developing a MonsterVerse series revolving around the secret scientific organization, Monarch!”

As we often do when it’s necessary to separate news from static, we turn to famed UK film critic and academic Mr. H (whose video essays are often featured here on Dread Central).

So is Mr. H convinced in this report’s validity? Not so much! The way this news was presented was his first clue that no such Monarch series is currently in the works. Listen to his full argument below.

Synopsis:
Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.  Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond.  But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe.  The epic clash between the two titans—instigated by unseen forces—is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Adam Wingard directs Godzilla Vs Kong from a script written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein. Terry Rossio, Michael Dougherty, and Zach Shields penned the story based on Godzilla by Toho and King Kong by Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper.
