“I’m super excited for this film,” Wan told his Instagram followers. “I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come.”

James Wan directs Malignant from a screenplay by Akela Cooper based on an original story by Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Cooper.

Malignant stars Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), George Young (Containment), Jake Abel (Supernatural), Maddie Hasson (God Bless America), Michole Briana White (Encino Man), Jacqueline McKenzie (Netflix’s Pine Gap), and Ingrid Bisu (The Nun).

Plot details are under wraps but Wan’s super excited to go back to his indie roots with this hard-R thriller. Malignant is an original horror idea (not a reboot/remake or based on existing IP) with old school, practical effects, and no giant, blue screens.
