CLAYFACE: Mike Flanagan Wants New Horror-Tragedy About Shapeshifting Batman Nemesis

Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Bly Manor director Mike Flanagan wants to make a new Superman movie. That or a ‘horror/thriller/tragedy’ about Batman’s cult classic shapeshifting nemesis Clayface.

A fan asked Flanagan on Twitter which DC character he’d make a movie about. He replied: “Well, I’ve wanted to do a Superman movie since I was a kid, but I would also be really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror, thriller, tragedy.

Flanagan is one of our top favorite filmmakers here at Dread. But someone out there will surely not be familiar with his body of work. Somehow. Anyways, he’s helmed Oculus, Hush, Gerald’s Game, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and every episode of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House. That’s, of course, on top of the above-mentioned classics, Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Meanwhile, Clayface is one of Batman’s best villains. The character is typically portrayed as a guy (or girl) with – you guessed it – a clay-like body. This extreme dadbod grants the guy (or gal) the ability to shapeshift into other people or objects.

Sounds like a match made in Horror Heaven to this guy.

But this Clayafce flick may never happen. That said Mike Flanagan’s new seven-episode Netflix series Midnight Mass is in the can. It centers on an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events (and frightening omens) after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) teased it’s like Salem’s Lot meets The Perfect Storm. So bring THAT the fuck on ASAP.

Would you rather see Mike Flanagan take on Superman or Clayface?
