Disney+ and LucasFilm’s Willow series serves as a direct sequel to producer George Lucas’ classic with original director Ron Howard producing. Warwick Davis also returns as Willow. And now we have the logo and also the release date.

Disney tweets: “Willow, an Original Series from Lucasfilm starring Warwick Davis, with the pilot directed by Jon M Chu, is coming in 2022 to Disney Plus.”

Check out the tweet and also the logo below.

We already knew the series takes place years after the original film and introduces new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed monsters, all while welcoming back its namesake hero, Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis).

The Willow series revolves around a group on a mission to save a kidnapped prince. Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy), Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals), and also Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story) are the three female leads.

Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe 2) will direct and also executive produce Willow with showrunners Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle. Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Jonathan Kasdan, Wendy Mericle, and Ron Howard serve as executive producers. Roopesh Parekh and Hannah Friedman are co-executive producers.

The Disney+ Willow series begins shooting next year. It returns to “the dramatic and enchanted” landscapes of Wales, where much of the original was also shot. Jonathan Kasdan wrote the pilot which will hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
