GODZILLA VS. KONG Has Lowest Budget in the MonsterVerse Franchise

The Guest and You’re Next director Adam Wingard’s epic monster mash Godzilla Vs Kong will smash into theaters and also onto HBO Max on May 2021. And today we learned the new Monsterverse film sports the lowest budget of the franchise.

Yes, according to The New York Times, Godzilla vs. Kong cost about $155M. That’s in contrast to Godzilla: King of the Monsters which sported a budget of around $170-$200M. And Gareth Edwards’ original Godzilla (2014) which cost $160M. And let’s not forget Kong: Skull Island spent about $185M all said and done.

It seems strange that the biggest movie of the series (on paper) ends up with the lowest budget. But… the films haven’t been the megahits I’m sure everyone was hoping for. So a reduced budget makes sense. Plus, $155M isn’t indie filmmaking.
