New DUNE Will Bring Spice & Sandworms to HBO Max Next Year

Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune hits theaters and HBO Max in October 2021! Not sure why they could just stick with the original December release date at this point. But what do I know? I just want to visit Arrakis ASAP.

Bring it on!

Herbert’s son Brian Herbert recently spoke about the film. He revealed Villeneuve’s Dune will forever be considered THE definitive film adaptation of his father’s novel.

He tells Inverse: “I was very impressed by the trailer, and I was thrilled to actually be on the movie set in Budapest last year, where my wife and I watched the filming of several scenes. This is a really big movie, a major project that will forever be considered THE definitive film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. Fans are going to love this movie. Denis Villeneuve is the perfect director to do Dune.”

Villeneuve directs Dune from a script he wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, based on the novel. Chalamet, Ferguson, and Brolin’s co-stars include Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem. Charlotte Rampling joins in with Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, Stephen Henderson, and Zendaya.

In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis. Also known as Dune. The only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, the spice. It’s a drug that extends life, provides superhuman thoughts, and makes space travel possible. Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap. But he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisers to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

Dune hits theaters and HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
