RIP Eric Matthew Hailey: Indie Actor/Writer Has Passed Away at 47

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a member of Dread Central’s extended family. Eric Matthew Hailey voiced the foul-mouthed puppet Mr. Munchies on our web series Chronic Horror in addition to acting in feature films including Snake Outta Compton and Chemical Peel.

Eric Matthew Hailey, originally from Tennessee, was an actor, writer, artist and friend. He is survived by his wife Amanda.

Outpourings of rememberences are being shared online.

“Eric was very talented as an actor, but more than that, he was a kind soul. He was always willing to help as much as he could, and he was one of those people that made being on set that much better. I could talk about him on and on, but for now, I will just say that as a filmmaker and a friend… I will miss him, very much,” says Hank Braxtan (Director Chemical Peel, Snake Outta Compton, Chronic Horror).

“Eric was the type of artist that supported you in your artistry. He would get excited about creating, whether it was his project or yours. He was selfless, generous, brilliant, brave, and deep. I don’t think he ever quite knew how talented he was, but I hope he knew how much he will always be love,” says Arielle Brachfeld (Producer on Chemical Peel, Snake Outta Compton, Chronic Horror).

“While I never got to know him outside of class, I was always pleased to be paired with him, knowing that good work, solid acting choices, and profound scene discoveries would surely be at hand. All of my love and well wishes to his family and friends,” says Michael Klug (Actor Space).

I didn’t know Eric well either, but he brought joy and laughter to the set of Chronic Horror and I always assumed we’d work together again on the show’s next incarnation. It’s a reminder to appreciate the wonderful people we meet in life; a reminder to cherish good times with good people. And I’ll always harbor fond memories of Eric.
