HOCUS POCUS 2 Sports Great Story, Teases Bette Midler

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will return as the Sanderson Sisters in Dinsey+ and Adam Shankman’s Hocus Pocus 2. And today, Midler reveals she’s has seen an outline for the sequel and thinks it’s pretty great.

Midler tells People: “They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor because it’s been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great.”

She adds: “We’re trying to see who’s available and who’s still out there and still working and who can come back. Because, a lot of the success of what we did on that picture had to do with the team that was surrounded, had to do with the team that they assembled to make that picture, the people who did the flying and the rigging, the people who did the green screens, the people who did the … I don’t think they called it the green screen in those days. The people who did the hair and makeup, which were all exemplary, the costumers, and the special effects people.

Hocus Pocus 2 is set to begin filming early next year in L.A. and Massachusetts with Midler, Parker, and Najimy returning as the Sanderson sisters. Shankman (Hairspray) directs from a script by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics).

Hocus Pocus was directed by Kenny Ortega from a script by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris (The Stand). David Kirschner (Child’s Play) produced with Steven Haft.

The original centered on a group of kids who accidentally frees a coven of evil witches and with the help of a magical cat must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal. It starred Midler, Najimy, and Parker with Thora Birch, Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw, Jason Marsden, and Doug Jones.
