Stephen King Feels “Terrible” For the Film Industry

The film industry is in trouble. We all know this all too well by this point in time. Especially anything having to do with theatrical releases. But now it seems that The Stand and The Shining author Stephen King has learned this hard lesson first-hand after visiting his local multiplex for the first time since February.

He writes: “I went to the movies last night. First time since February. No problem social distancing. Saturday night, 7 screens, 4 total customers including me and my nephew. I feel terrible for the film industry.”

Check out his tweet below.

King’s last theatrical movie was It Chapter Two which made it under the COVID-19 wire by a few months, hitting in September of last year. Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay written by Gary Dauberman (The Nun), the sequel starred Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, Andy Bean, and Bill SkarsgĂ„rd as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

It hit theaters in the U.S. in 2D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX, grossing over $473M worldwide. Again, it was one of the lucky ones that managed to be unleashed before the pandemic hit. Can you imagine if we were STILL waiting for THAT flick?
