Blumhouse’s THE VIGIL Rated PG-13 for Terror & Disturbing/ Violent Images

Blumhouse and first-time writer-director Keith Thomas’ supernatural fright flick The Vigil has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for terror, some disturbing/violent images, thematic elements, and brief strong language.

Rooted in Jewish culture and mysticism, it’s a supernatural horror film set in a unique world: The Hasidic community of “Boro” Park, Brooklyn where a young man agrees to fulfill the duties of a “shomer,” the ritualistic practice of looking after a dead body over the course of one night.

The film sports an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Consistently clever and creepy, The Vigil mines richly atmospheric supernatural horror from a deep well of religious traditions.

Executive produced by Jason Blum, it stars Dave Davis, Menashe Lustig, Malky Goldman, Fred Melamed, Nati Rabinowitz, and Lynn Cohen. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September.

Blumhouse will unleash the film internationally on August 5, 2020.
