RIP Ian Holm: Actor Who Played Ash in ALIEN Has Passed Away at 88

We are saddened to learn that Ian Holm, the actor who played the aggressive android Ash in Alien, has passed away; he was 88 years old. His agent told The Guardian:

“It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88. He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer,” adding that his illness was Parkinson’s related. “Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely.”

Some of Holm’s other memorable roles include Napoleon in Time Bandits, Mr. Kurtzmann in Brazil, Tom Frost in Naked Lunch, Victor’s Father in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Cornelius in The Fifth Element, Kiri Vinokur in eXistenZ, Sir William Gull in From Hell, and Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

All of us here at Dread Central send our sincerest condolences to Holm’s fans, friends, and family. He was a dignified and magnanimous actor whose talents will be sorely missed.
