Producer Really Happy With Blumhouse’s THE CRAFT Reboot

Blumhouse and director Zoe Lister-Jones’ The Craft reboot with Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Nicholas Galitzine, David Duchovny, and Michelle Monaghan has wrapped filming.
And today, producer Doug Wick reveals he’s really happy with the film.
Wick tells ComicBook.com: “It’s always challenging because I did The Craft so many years ago, and I started doing it because I just wanted to make a movie about teen-aged girls coming into their sexuality and as I was reading about it, I was reading that the age-old mythology for talking about female empowerment and fear of it was witchcraft. So then I started going to writers to try and do that. We talked to so many people and we found a really talented female writer/director [Zoe Lister-Jones] and we’re happy with what she’s doing, so we’ll see.”

The original film begins after transferring to a Los Angeles high school, Sarah finds that her telekinetic gift appeals to a group of three wannabe witches, who happen to be seeking a fourth member for their rituals. Like Sarah herself, they all have troubled backgrounds, which combined with their nascent powers lead to dangerous consequences. When a minor spell causes a fellow student to lose her hair, the girls grow power-mad.
The film sports a 55% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: The Craft’s campy magic often overrides the feminist message at its story’s core, but its appealing cast and postmodern perspective still cast a sporadic spell.
