With Gary Ross opting not to direct the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, the race is on to find a director to take his place. Ready for the super short list? Read on!
According to Deadline, Lionsgate is narrowing the search down between Moneyball director Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence, who most recently directed Water for Elephants and who handled a big scale movie in I Am Legend. Deadline also states that Lionsgate also met with The Orphanage helmer Juan Antonio Bayona and additionally discussed Attack The Block director Joe Cornish.
The sequel to the 2008 bestseller continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of The Hunger Games.
