Rob Zombie Recounts Horrific (and Timely) Murder He Witnessed at 18

With all the real horror that’s going on in our world today, House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects writer-director Rob Zombie thinks it’s time to share a story.
Back in 1983, on his first night after moving to NYC, 18-year-old Zombie and his seven roommates witnessed the unspeakably horrible and savagely beating of a man by NYC Transit Police right outside his dorm room window.

He writes: “This Michael Stewart. On September 15, 1983, at 2:50 am he was screaming for help while being savagely beaten by NYC Transit Police. Hours later he was in a coma. Two weeks later he was dead. This happened on my first night after moving to NYC and right outside the window to my dorm room that overlooked Union Square. Myself and my seven roommates witnessed everything. I was 18 and had just seen an unspeakably horrible event. Now I am 55 and watching the same shit again and again and again in broad daylight filmed in HD on an iPhone. The more things change the more they stay the same…. and the same is fucked up. Fight The Power. For those asking questions. I was interviewed by the DA and spoke before the Grand Jury, but was not brought into testify during the trial. I don’t know why? I guess they had enough witnesses. And as the question of why didn’t you and your roommates do anything? Let me give you some perspective. It’s our first night in NYC. We are on the 7th floor, it’s basically 3 am and we are awakened by screaming. We go to the window and see a situation happening that by the time you fully comprehend… it’s over.”
