Kevin Smith Wants Keanu Reeves For BUCKAROO BANZAI Series

Once upon a time Clerks and Dogma writer-director, Kevin Smith was set to create a series based on The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

The series fell apart when MGM filed a suit against the original film’s creators. But today Smith revealed his dream casting: Keanu Reeves.

Smith said on Fatman Beyond: “If I was writing a Keanu Reeves vehicle, I’d put him in Buckaroo Banzai. That’s what I’d do. It’s a good idea. Somebody should try that.”

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension centers on, you guessed it, Buckaroo Banzai who is caught with his trusted allies, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, in a battle to the death between evil red aliens and good black aliens from Planet 10. Led by demonic dictator John Whorfin, who has taken over the body of Italian scientist Dr. Emilio Lizardo, the aliens try to get the Overthruster back from Buckaroo Banzai. But the good black aliens are willing to destroy Earth rather than let these renegades return to their planet.

The film sports a 69% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Sci-fi parodies like these usually struggle to work, but Buckaroo Banzai succeeds through total devotion to its own lunacy.
