Nicolas Cage Will Play Joe Exotic in TIGER KING TV Series
It’s official. Nicolas Cage will play Joe Exotic in a new eight-episode series based on Netflix’s hit docuseries Tiger King. Dan Lagana (American Vandal) will serve as writer and showrunner
The role marks the first regular television role of Cage’s career.

Specifically, this new series is based on the article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad and centers on Joe Schreibvogel, a.k.a Joe Exotic, an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park even at the risk of losing his sanity.
The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation. Cage will executive produce with Lagana, Paul Young, Brian Grazer, Samie Kim Falvey, Scott Brown, and Megan Creydt. Imagine and CBS produce.

For those that might not know, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness centers on a zoo owner who spirals out of control amid a cast of eccentric characters in this true murder-for-hire story from the underworld of big cat breeding. A special hosted by Joel McHale was released on April 12, 2020, with McHale interviewing several of the stars about Exotic and the series itself.
