This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday, Jaime King!

On this day in horror history, actress Jaime King was born back in 1979. King’s first major role was in director Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor and her first starring role was in Bulletproof Monk with Chow Yun Fat and Seann William Scott. She has since appeared in such genre classics as Robert Rodriquez’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

King has since gone on to be one of our beloved genre’s top scream queens starring in such films as David Arquette’s slasher comedy The Tripper, Ernie Barbarash’s They Wait, Darren Lynn Bousman’s Mother’s Day remake, and Steven C. Miller’s Silent Night, Deadly Night remake.

Most recently King was the star on Netflix’s hit eight-episode zombie thriller series Black Summer, which Stephen King loved and praised as “Existential hell in the suburbs, stripped to the bone.”

But all of those killer roles aside, King is perhaps best known around these parts for her role in Trick and Drive Angry filmmaking team Patrick Lussier & Todd Farmer’s My Bloody Valentine 3D.

The remake begins when an inexperienced coal miner named Tom Hanniger caused an accident that killed five men and put a sixth, Harry Warden, into a coma. A year later, on Valentine’s Day, Harry woke up and murdered 22 people with a pickaxe before dying. Now Tom has returned home, still haunted by the past. And something else is back in Harmony: a pickaxe-wielding killer in a miner’s mask, who may be the ghost of Harry, come to claim Tom and his friends.

Rated R for graphic brutal horror violence and grisly images throughout, some strong sexuality, graphic nudity and language, the film sports a 60% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: This gory, senses-assaulting slasher film is an unpretentious, effective mix of old-school horror stylings and modern 3D technology.
