THE TENANT Hits Blu-ray via Scream Factory 7/28

Roman Polanski’s eerie thriller The Tenant is coming to Blu-ray for the first time in North America via Scream Factory on July 28th. Extras are in progress and will be announced on a later date.

It takes place in Paris, where an isolated Eastern European rents an apartment in a spooky old building whose inhabitants regard him with suspicion and outright hostility. When he learns that the apartment’s previous tenant, a beautiful woman, tried to commit suicide by jumping out the window, He begins to identify with her in increasingly disturbing ways. Then, to make matters even worse, he reaches the conclusion that his new neighbors are plotting to kill him.

The Tenant was directed by Roman Polanski (Repulsion, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown). Andrew Braunsberg produced. Polanski co-wrote the screenplay along with Gérard Brach based on the book by Roland Topor. It stars Roman Polanski, Isabelle Adjani, Melvyn Douglas, Jo Van Fleet, Rufus, Shelley Winters. Paramount Pictures released it here in the states back on June 11, 1976.

The movie sports an 88% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: A rough-edged thriller that lacks the precision of Polanski’s best work, but makes up for it with its skillful mounting of paranoia, dread, and dark themes.
