This Day in Horror History: OTIS Was Released in 2008
Every so often, folks ask me to recommend and awesome, underrated horror movie. One of the best horror comedies aficionados haven’t seen is Otis, directed by Tony Krantz from a screenplay penned by Erik Jendresen and Thomas Schnauz. Bostin Christopher plays the title character, Otis Broth, a man-child looking to have the perfect prom with the girl of his dreams. Since its a horror movie, this is anything but a sweet coming of age story!
Ashley Johnson plays Riley, the object of Otis’s affections–and she’s anything but your stereotypical victim. The film is further propelled by awesome performances by Daniel Stern, Illeana Douglas, and Kevin Pollak. If you’ve never seen Otis, or it’s been a while, check out the trailer and synopsis below.
Synopsis:
A man (Daniel Stern) and his wife (Illeana Douglas) seek revenge after their daughter (Ashley Johnson) escapes from the clutches of a serial killer.
Trivia:
Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs appears in one shot as an orderly in the hospital. He is wearing the exact same costume his character, Mandingo, wore in Sublime (2007), where he was a satanic orderly. (Source)
