Dread Central caught up with Todd McFarlane amid this year’s Toy Fair festivities in New York City. While surrounded by all his latest plastic creations, we couldn’t help checking in on the status of the new Spawn movie and, thankfully, good news was on the menu! It seems that a Hollywood machine that wasn’t warming to the idea of a serious, horror-fueled superhero film based on an ultra-violent comic book has now started coming around, due in no small part to the success of Warner Bros. Joker. We should probably also give credit to films like Brightburn and Freaks for presenting a darker spin on a world with super-powered beings. The takeaway? There’s hope, and things are moving faster now than they have been for a long time. Todd also took the time to explain his vision for Spawn in a modern film, describing him more as a supernatural force than a man with a growly voice. Jump in and hear the words from McFarlane himself, embedded at the top of the article.
