This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Gary J. Tunnicliffe

Gary J. Tunnicliffe is a true unsung hero of horror. As an effects artist, his filmography is extensive and elite. He’s worked on Candyman, Warlock: The Armageddon, Lord of Illusions, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Wishmaster, Blade, Candyman: Day of the Dead, Ginger Snaps, Dracula 2000, Mimic 2, Halloween: Ressurection, Exorcist: The Beginning, Feast, Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave, Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis, Pulse, Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud, My Bloody Valentine (2009), The Collector, Scream 4, Apollo 18, Piranha 3DD, The Collection, Trick, and many more.

His association with the Hellraiser franchise is especially extensive, helming the makeup effects we saw in Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Hellraiser: Hellseeker, Hellraiser: Deader, and Hellraiser: Hellworld. By the time Hellraiser: Revelations came around in 2011, he was doing more than makeup: He wrote and directed the film as well. Same on Hellraiser: Judgment in 2018, where he also appeared on screen as the pseudo-Cenobite, The Auditor [Featured Image].
