LA Haunt Review: Zombie Joe’s Underground Gets Kinky with “The Bogeyman”

Desiring something a bit out of the ordinary this Valentine’s Day weekend? Then look no further, as Zombie Joe’s Underground in North Hollywood, CA, is serving up “full contact horror” immersive theatre performances on both Friday and Saturday nights of their latest show “The Bogeyman,” and it’s a wild and provocative ride… and one in which you (and your date) will undertake blindfolded.

Very loosely falling somewhere between 1974’s Black Christmas and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut in both aural narrative and tone, and held in a nondescript building located at 4850 Lankershim Boulevard (which possesses signage above the entrance which reads simply “Z.J.U.”) The Bogeyman’s being directed by Zombie Joe and Jorge Lozano, and from what we experienced during a recent preview performance, it isn’t for the faint of heart. Who it is for certainly however are people interested in both an adrenaline rush and an experience that may take them out of their respective comfort zones, and it’ll more than likely also succeed in simultaneously titillating and terrifying (we witnessed several attendees exit rather flushed, excited and clutching on to one another: not a bad way to spend a Valentine’s Day).

The twenty-minute show, which Z.J.U. is billing as an “experience that delves into your deepest nighttime terrors,” and which costs a mere $16.00 per ticket, is currently taking reservations. Grab ‘em at the Zombie Joe’s Underground website here before they’re gone, and for more you can ‘like’ them on Facebook here and follow them on Instagram @ZombieJoes and on Twitter at @ZombieJoes.
