ANACONDA Reboot in the Works

Columbia Pictures is developing an all-new modern Meg-style reboot of Anaconda. While no producer is attached at this time, THR reports that Evan Daugherty has been hired to pen the script which will not be a remake or a sequel – but a reimagining.

Sure. Whatever.

While details are being kept under tight wraps (get it?) it’s said the original movie is one of the most profitable in Sony’s library and the studio is hoping to take a Meg-style approach to the franchise reboot – meaning they want to take a simple/cheap B-movie and give it a big-budget.

The original 1997 flick centered on filmmaker Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez) who is traveling deep in the Amazon jungle looking for a forgotten tribe. Terri and her crew, which includes an anthropologist (Eric Stoltz) and a cameraman (Ice Cube), come across Paul (Jon Voight), who is stranded on the riverbank. He offers to help them find the tribe, but his secretive behavior puts everyone on edge. They realize too late that he’s using them to find a legendary anaconda that’s worth a fortune — if they can catch it.

Anaconda was directed by Luis Llosa and produced by Verna Harrah, Carol Little, and Leonard Rabinowitz from a screenplay written by Hans Bauer, Jim Cash, and Jack Epps Jr. It starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. Columbia Pictures released it back on April 11, 1997.
