Blumhouse’s THE CRAFT Reboot Is Spooky, Timely & Relevant

Blumhouse and director Zoe Lister-Jones are rebooting director Andrew Fleming’s The Craft starring Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, and Nicholas Galitzine with David Duchovny and Michelle Monaghan.

When asked by Collider if the film was a remake or a reimagining, Michelle Monaghan said:

I would say a reimagining. [Writer/director] Zoe’s [Lister-Jones] just really smart and it was just a great time being on that set. Spooky, but also really timely and relevant in terms of what it’s about and how she reimagined it. And it’s Blumhouse and I’ve been wanting to work with Jason [Blum] for a while now so it was great to finally collaborate with him.”

Much like the original starring Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True, this new take on The Craft centers on a young girl starting at a new school who befriends three other girls and quickly becomes the fourth member of their clique. She soon learns that she somehow brings great power to the quartet.

This, obviously, resembles the original’s plot rundown, which went like this:

After transferring to a Los Angeles high school, Sarah finds that her telekinetic gift appeals to a group of three wannabe witches, who happen to be seeking a fourth member for their rituals. Bonnie, Rochelle and Nancy, like Sarah herself, all have troubled backgrounds, which combined with their nascent powers lead to dangerous consequences. When a minor spell causes a fellow student to lose her hair, the girls grow power-mad.”

Lister-Jones (Band Aid) will direct Blumhouse’s The Craft from a script she’s writing along with Daniel Casey (9 Fast 9 Furious). Jason Blum is producing with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher.
