Lupita Nyong’o Will Never Return For Jordan Peele’s US 2
The New York Film Critics Circle just named Lupita Nyong’o Best Actress of the year for her role(s) in Jordan Peele’s Us. But it looks like Nyong’o isn’t interested in revisiting her characters.
Specifically, Nyong’o tells Deadline: “No thanks. Red is dead.”
She elaborates: “I had to hold down both sides of the argument. I had to be the offender and the offended. It was about understanding the emotional landscape of each character but also having a very strict discipline to play both physically and mentally. For me, what I found I related to was that identifying with that inner monster inside me.”
You can read Peele’s stellar screenplay right HERE.
It centers on a woman who returns with her husband, son, and daughter to the home where she grew up as a child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, she grows increasingly concerned something bad is going to happen. Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend on the house, forcing them into a fight for survival. When the masks come off, the family is horrified to learn each attacker takes the appearance of one of them.
It stars Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson/Red, Winston Duke as Gabriel “Gabe” Wilson/Abraham, Shahadi Wright Joseph as Zora Wilson/Umbrae, Evan Alex as Jason Wilson/Pluto, Elisabeth Moss as Kitty Tyler/Dahlia, Tim Heidecker as Josh Tyler/Tex, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Written and directed by Jordan Peele (Get Out) Us is produced by Jason Blum, Ian Cooper, Sean McKittrick, and Jordan Peele. Universal Pictures released the film back on March 22, 2019.
