RENFIELD Movie Coming Soon From ROCKETMAN Director

Earlier today we passed along the news that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is producing a reboot of John Landis’ classic horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London.

And now we have word via Variety that Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher will be taking the helm of a Dracula spin-off centered on his notorious henchman Renfield.

For those that might not know, Renfield is from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He is the original real estate agent sent to Transylvania ahead of Jonathan Harker who falls under Dracula’s power.

This version of the character is based on an original pitch from Robert Kirkman which Rick and Morty writer Ryan Ridley will turn into a script. While plot specifics are unknown at this time, it speculated that this version will take place in modern-day.

Tom Waits played Renfield in Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Peter MacNicol played him in Mel Brooks’ Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and Samuel Barnett played him in the third and final season of Penny Dreadful.

Kirkman will produce this Renfield movie along with David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst.

This news comes to us as Blumhouse and Leigh Whannell’s reboot of The Invisible Man is heading to a theater near you in February 2020. Maybe the Dark Universe isn’t as dead as we all thought, huh? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
