DOCTOR SLEEP Drops 56% In Its Second Weekend
The Haunting of Hill House and Hush director Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep aka The Shining 2, opened in theaters last weekend to underwhelming numbers.
And today we’ve learned from The Numbers the film dropped 56% this weekend from its meager opening last weekend.
Yes, over this past weekend, Doctor Sleep only managed to snag an estimated $6.18M which wasn’t even good enough to land it in the top five. The film now sports a domestic total of just $25M after two weeks in release. This. Film. Deserves. Better.
And it isn’t doing much better overseas pulling in just $5.2M in 71 markets. All that adds to a worldwide total of – sigh – $28.8M.
The sequel centers on an adult Danny Torrance who is struggling with alcoholism and remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child.
But Danny’s hope for a peaceful existence soon shatters when he meets a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the “shine.” Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle Rose the Hat and the True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal.
It stars Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Cliff Curtis, Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe, Jacob Tremblay, Bruce Greenwood, and Henry Thomas.
Doctor Sleep is now playing at a theater near you.
