The One Type of Horror Movie Nicolas Cage Refuses to Make

We’re in the midst of a Nicolas Cage renaissance, especially in the horror arena. He was phenomenal as Red Miller in 2018’s Mandy and garnered great reviews for his turn in The Color Out of Space, which premiered at TIFF this weekend. And while the versatile actor is known for his prolificness, there’s one kind of horror movie he’s not interested in making: Torture porn.

Here’s what he told our friends at IndieWire:

“Horror is fine, you can be very creative with that. The thing I really don’t like is what they call ‘torture porn,’” he said. “If you’re just watching some woman get cut up, that’s really not for me. It needs to have a reason there, a story, that propels the characters, an emotion connected to it. I would probably have to pass on just gratuitous violence.”
