Adult Swim Adapting Junji Ito’s UZUMAKI Into Toonami Limited Series

Some rather incredible news as Adult Swim’s Toonami will be releasing a four-episode limited series adaptation of Junji Ito’s terrifying story Uzumaki. The series is already in production and will be released in 2020.

“As a huge fan of Junji Ito, I’m thrilled to be able to tackle one of his signature works, with a team of amazing creators who are all equally devoted to doing justice to this monumental work of horror manga,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice-president on-air for Adult Swim.

Uzumaki was adapted into a feature-length film in 2000, directed by Akihiro Higuchi under the name Higuchinsky. The film received mixed-positive reviews, with critics praising the visuals and mood, although they lamented the lack of existential scares that Ito’s work often creates.

The series will be produced at Drive Inc., and directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushi-shi, Flowers of Evil). The score will be created by Colin Stetson (Hereditary, Red Dead Redemption 2).
