Ari Aster’s MIDSOMMAR Scores Hard R for–A Lot of Reasons!

For anyone who’s seen Ari Aster’s first film, Hereditary, it should come as no surprise that his sophomore feature film, Midsommar has landed an R rating from the MPAA. It the number of reasons for the film’s R, however, may surprise you; it’s a laundry list!

Midsommar has been rated R for “disturbing ritualistic violence and grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language.” Fuck!

Synopsis:
A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
