Yesterday, we shared Jimmy Champane’s video update on the current status of the Friday the 13th franchise, which has been mired in litigation for years. It was such a popular video, the YouTuber decided to give the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise the same treatment. So, what’s up with Freddy Krueger and the franchise launched by horror maestro Wes Craven in 1984.
More of the same, unfortunately. As opposed to Friday the 13th, however, the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise is solely owned by New Line, who can reboot the franchise any time they want. So, especially considering the success of Blumhouse’s Halloween reboot, why would the studio hesitate in regards to putting a new Nightmare on the fast track.
Like we reported last January, it seems like The Conjuring Universe is keeping Krueger locked in the boiler room. As long as that franchise continues to be a financial juggernaut, all New Line’s efforts are laser focused there. Of course, it’s not quite that simple; check out Champane’s latest video at the top of the article for a more detailed dive into the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot situation.
